The National Design Awards are bestowed for a body of work, not for any one specific project by a much selected jury of highly respected creative professionals. Nominees must be citizens or long-term residents of the United States. There are seven National Design Awards to be bestowed at a gala award ceremony in New York on October 19, 2004 including Lifetime and Corporate Achievement Awards and Awards in Architecture, Communication, Environment, Fashion and Product Design for which Robert Radi has been Nominated. As Miss Kavelman explains in her letter, the National Design Awards are the only awards of their kind in the nation as they celebrate design excellence and innovation, and also serve as a critical gauge of the impact of design on the quality of American life. Their unique contribution to America's cultural life was recognized by their designations as an official White House Millennium Council program in 2000.

Both First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush have hosted White House ceremonies celebrating the Award program.

Bridgestone Tires - Taking A Drive

After a chance meeting between Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone in the late 1800?s the two collaborated on Ford's first automobile.
It was the man that ultimately was the impetus for Bridgestone Tires that helped Mr. Ford resolve his problem of supporting such a large weight and also to give the ride a smoother touch.
From the hand that the Bridgestone Tire creator played in a historic moment in the history of the United States, through countless other innovations, Bridgestone has been there.
With something that the average person gives very little attention to unless a problem arises, it's interesting to consider what aspects must be focused on to make a good, reliable tire.
Bridgestone has given considerable attention in the area of wet handling and traction, tire punctures, tire wear, ride comfort, noise reduction, among countless other areas that are indeed essential, if we drivers and riders are to continue to "forget" about the things that our autos...

4x4 Truck Tires - For The Big Boys

What do you want to see?
A blur of forest and land slide by as you spin in all directions with mud surrounding your truck as if you've become engulfed in a tornado that's comprised strictly of earth and water, is certainly a compelling option.
And, that's right, it can be an option.
But, there's something else that perhaps, unfortunately, cannot be ignored.
Sometimes you need to get to work.
And unless your office is conveniently located well off the highway, by way of some little known and covered path, well then you may need to consider the handling and driving of your vehicle under multiple conditions.

Its not always glamorous, but the fact is your 4x4 tires are probably going to ride upon reasonably dry, smooth surfaces.

But, that's not to say that you can't be ready for anything.
More practical purposes for having a 4x4, and the 4x4 tires that go with it, are things such as slippery conditions due to snow...

How tires are manufactured?

The first stage of tire making is collecting raw materials and formulating rubber compounds. The raw materials used are rubber, oils, pigments, antioxidants, carbon black or silica, accelerators and other additives. These are then mixed together in a huge blender, which is called Banburys. After the mixing process is completed a gum like material forms. This material is then cut into strips.

These strips will make the sidewalls and other portions of the tire.

The main body of the tire is manufactured using fabricated rubber. Polyester, nylon and rayon are the fabrics used. The fabrics are changed depending on the type of the tire.
But mostly Polyester is used.

Another ring like component is used to make a tire. This is called tire bead. Steel wires of high tensile are used to make this tire bead.

Radial tires are made in a cylindrical tire-building machine. The machine almost gives the final shape of the tire.
